Directional Change

Thomazeau, Haiti

Thomazeau, Haiti

What do you do when you’re walking down a path and you are lead a different direction than the one you thought was going to lead you to your destination?  I guess it depends on the dread and fear you had in getting to that particular destination; or the excitement and hope in walking toward that destination.  We’ve had the blessing of experiencing the latter and have made a lot of friends along the way.  And we’ve learned a lot about ourselves.  Even more powerful, we’ve learned a lot about God and how He loves to work through people to bless His children.  It’s because of that knowledge that we are trusting Him as we are being lead down a different path.  After a lot of prayer and seeking wise counsel we decided that we will not continue the journey with MMDR.  We have learned it just isn’t a good fit for us.  We still think very highly of MMDR and the work they are doing in Thomazeau and we’ll continue to help any way we can.

The Haitian Team

The Haitian Team

We aren’t exactly sure what our next step will be.  We’ve been advised by our pastor to take the month of February and pray over the globe to see where God wants to use us and so that is what we are doing.  We do know one thing – we will serve Him in big ways no matter where He places us.  We are excited to see what happens next because we know Who we are following.

Will you pray with us?  Will you please continue to keep these amazing Haitian men and the team that is working alongside them in your prayers?  And will you praise God for all that He has done and will be doing in our lives?  We will keep you updated here and we look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Yes of course I will send my prayers as you SEEK HIS FACE in WHERE HE wants you, Jeremiah 29:11!

  2. Diana S. says:

Wow, Suzan I am shocked. I’ve loved following your blog. I will pray for both of you to know God’s Will for your future. God Bless.

    • Allan & Suzan Hicks' Blog says:

Diana, I know it will be a shock for many (us too). But as someone told me the other day when you are obediently following God there will be twists and turns we never expected. Please keep following us – we’ll keep sharing what is happening.

Oh, God has a way of doing this to us, doesn’t He? We leave our comfort zone only to find that we then have to leave the new comfort zone. This is what is meant by, “God writes straight with crooked lines.” It may be twisty and turn-y for a while! At some point, you’ll both say, “Ah! THAT’S what we’re supposed to do!” Know that I’m praying for you as you continue to discern His will. Be at peace!

    • Allan & Suzan Hicks' Blog says:

Dale, I love what you said about the comfort zones! You hit the nail on the head. Thank you for your prayers and your wise words!

  4. Ay! I think I’ve been where you’re describing emotionally/spiritually. It’s a Fruit-Basket-Turnover kind of time. It’s awful because you’re hanging upside down. It’s wonderful because you know God’s clearing the path for you and getting rid of anything you don’t need.

With all that said, it’s hard because the way “forward” is not clear. I like the idea of taking a month to mull it over and just listen to God. He loves to whisper sweet nothings into the ears of His kids about the next step.

    Praying!

Julia, a “fruit-basket turnover” is a great analogy for this moment in time. Thank you for your prayers and your friendship!

Praying for you two. You’ll know what is right for you in God’s time.
